Australian Rail Technology to establish specialist factory on the Fraser Coast

Australian Rail Technology (ART) has announced plans to establish a specialised manufacturing facility on Queensland’s Fraser Coast, marking a major expansion for the company and strengthening its involvement in Australia’s growing rail manufacturing sector.

The new facility will support ART’s role in the Queensland Government’s Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP), which is delivering a new fleet of locally built trains for South East Queensland. The program aims to produce modern, reliable and accessible passenger trains that will improve rail transport across the region while supporting local industry and supply chains.

As part of the initiative, ART plans to leverage its experience in rail engineering, manufacturing and maintenance by establishing a dedicated factory in Dundowran on the Fraser Coast. Construction of the facility is expected to commence in 2025 and represents the company’s largest expansion since it was founded.

Once completed, the new site will enable ART to undertake manufacturing, servicing and maintenance work directly within Queensland. The investment will allow the company to support the local rail industry more effectively while contributing to the long-term delivery and maintenance of the state’s next generation of trains.

ART brings more than two decades of experience delivering rolling stock technology and engineering solutions across Australia, with major projects previously completed in New South Wales and Victoria. The Fraser Coast expansion reflects the company’s continued growth and commitment to supporting large-scale rail programs through advanced manufacturing and technical capability.

In addition to strengthening regional manufacturing capacity, the project will also create opportunities for training and skills development. ART has committed to supporting Indigenous employment pathways by providing training and mentorship programs designed to help Indigenous Australians begin careers in engineering and electronics manufacturing.

The new Fraser Coast facility will become an important part of ART’s national operations, reinforcing the company’s role as a supplier of innovative rail technologies and engineered solutions for Australia’s evolving rail network.
